Fred Ryan, the publisher and CEO of The Washington Post since September 2014, will step down in August to lead the new nonpartisan Center on Public Civility at the Ronald Reagan Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California.
Patty Stonesifer, a national nonprofit figure who is the former president and CEO of D.C.’s Martha’s Table, will immediately become interim CEO of the Post, the newspaper said Monday. Stonesifer, the founding CEO of the Gates Foundation and an Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) board member, will also lead the search for Ryan’s permanent replacement.
